When is GTA 6 Online coming out?
Published October 30, 2026
There's no release date yet. The only timing hint comes from Twitch's CEO, who expects the multiplayer in 2027 after talking with Rockstar. So expect the current online from GTA V to keep running until then.
What has Rockstar said about the release date?
Nothing official. Dan Clancy told Bloomberg at Tokyo Game Show in September 2026 that viewership will jump again "next year when they launch multiplayer", and it's unclear whether he was repeating Rockstar's plan or guessing. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick hasn't talked about it and only says the company expects to keep supporting GTA Online.
Rockstar's last two open worlds launched the same way, with the online part a few weeks behind. GTA Online opened on October 1, 2013, two weeks after GTA V, and the Red Dead Online beta started on November 27, 2018, a month after Red Dead Redemption 2.

No statement from Rockstar on either. See the sections below for what the current GTA Online does.
Will GTA 6 Online be on PC or have crossplay?
GTA 6 isn't announced for PC at all, and the early 2027 window is GamesBeat's report, not Rockstar's. GamesBeat's reading is that PC matters for online play because roleplay servers like FiveM run there, and Rockstar bought Cfx.re, the team behind FiveM, in 2023.
On crossplay there's no word either. The current GTA Online has never let PlayStation, Xbox and PC players into the same session, so a group split across consoles can't count on it.
Can I move my GTA Online character to GTA 6?
Nothing has been announced. Every GTA Online character transfer so far happened inside GTA V, from PS4 and Xbox One to PS5 and Xbox Series, and from the Legacy to the Enhanced version on PC. Character creation for GTA 6 Online hasn't been shown yet.
What can my group play together until then?
GTA V and its GTA Online are still the way to play GTA with friends, and they keep getting updates. For something else to play together on the same console, see co-op games on PS5, or what's set for next year in multiplayer games coming in 2027.
