What is cross progression?

Your levels, unlocks and Battle Pass are saved to an account you have with the publisher, so they follow you to every platform you link. Some studios call it cross-save, or write it cross-progression.

Not the same as crossplay. Helldivers 2 lets PC, PlayStation and Xbox play together, but each platform keeps its own progress.

Crossplay or cross progression: what's the difference?

CrossplayWho you can play with. Friends on other platforms join your match.
Cross progressionWhat you keep. Your progress goes with you to another platform.

A game can have one without the other. Monster Hunter Wilds, Forza Horizon 5 and The Outlast Trials have crossplay, and each platform keeps its own save.

How long before you can link again after undoing it.

Other questions

What is cross progression?

Your levels, unlocks and Battle Pass live on an account you have with the publisher, so you pick up where you left off on PC, PlayStation, Xbox or Switch. Some studios call it cross-save.

Is crossplay the same as cross platform?

In practice, yes: both mean players on different platforms in the same match. Xbox calls it cross-network play. Neither says anything about your progress.

Do you need to buy the game again on each platform?

In the games we checked, yes. Diablo IV needs the game on each platform you link, and Borderlands 4 lets you continue a Vault Hunter only where you own the game.

What if a game isn't on this page?

We haven't checked it yet. Its page on CoopGames still answers crossplay for every pair of platforms.
