Sailing goes better when the crew talks, and a phrase wheel covers the basics if someone has no mic. The PS5 controller has a built-in mic, and on PC and Xbox you need a headset.

What is Sea of Thieves like?

Together you crew a pirate ship, raising sails, steering, firing cannons and patching the hull while hunting treasure to sell at outposts. Other crews share the sea and can sink you to steal your loot.

Your crew gets a ship sized for the group (a sloop for two, a brigantine for three, a galleon for four), votes on a voyage and sails to it. Everyone has a job: steering, trimming the sails, reading the map, firing cannons, patching holes and bailing water. You dig up chests and collect skulls, then sell them at an outpost before logging off, because unsold loot is lost. Other crews share the sea and can sink you to take it.
