What is Dark Souls II like?

Across the kingdom of Drangleic, you fight undead and bosses in melee to collect souls. Each death lowers your max health until you use a Human Effigy, and this edition includes all three DLCs.

Everyone plays their own world, so a friend leaves a sign on the ground with a White Sign Soapstone, and the host, who has to be in human form, touches it to summon them as a phantom. Up to three phantoms can join. With the Name-Engraved Ring you pick a god so only players with the same choice see your sign. Summon range depends on Soul Memory, so it helps to progress together. A boss kill only counts for the host, so each of you beats it again at home.
