What is Civilization V like?

Each player guides a civilization from ancient times to the future in turns, founding cities, researching technology and negotiating or fighting with rivals. The map uses hexes, and only one military unit fits per tile.

The host sets up the map and the game speed, and each player picks a leader. Online, everyone usually plays their turn at the same time against a timer that ends it for you if it runs out, while in Hot Seat the group shares one computer and takes turns at the keyboard. A full game rarely fits in one night, so the host saves it and loads it next time. Players trade and declare war on each other until someone meets a victory condition or the turn limit arrives.
