Player two plays Bandana Dee, helping Kirby all the way through the adventure.

Player one is Kirby, who inhales enemies to copy their abilities and takes over big objects like cars in Mouthful Mode. After the tutorial stage, player two takes a Joy-Con and joins as Bandana Waddle Dee, who fights with a spear, throwing it at distant enemies and spinning it to float, but can't copy abilities or use Mouthful Mode. The camera follows Kirby, and if Bandana Waddle Dee strays too far he floats back in a bubble. Freed Waddle Dees rebuild a town with minigames.
